Despite her lower social ranking, she increasingly seems to become aware of her growing desires. This passage traces the beginning of Charityââ¬â¢s awakening to a new sense of self. The simile, ââ¬Å"glowed like a roseâ⬠is provocative in implication. She experiences a growing passion when she ââ¬Å"freed her thin shouldersâ⬠.
